If you are looking for the ultimate multi-day rafting adventure then this trip is for you.
This adventure is packed full of stunning scenery, towering mountains, narrow gorges, tussock valleys and pure clean water. With Grade 3 and 4 rapids this is our most challenging trip.
"Technical rafting and stunning camping make this my favourite trip."
From Hanmer Springs we head towards Lake Tennyson and over Mailing’s Pass in the four wheel drive vehicles. After lunch beside the Waiau it is time to get ready to raft.
The river starts off very gently, as it meanders past the Ada homestead. This is a relaxing way to start the trip before putting our rafting skills to the test as we tackle some exciting rapids. Both evenings will be spent camping on the river's edge and our delicious dinner will be cooked over an open campfire.
The second day is an action packed day of rafting. There are challenging rapids including The Narrows, which are one of the real rafting highlights of the trip. Basically it is a whole lot of water in a pretty tight space! The views of the Spencer Mountains back up the valley are spectacular.
The final day begins with a beautiful gorge that has it all, steep rocky walls, towering waterfalls and pockets of green bush. The wave chain rapids are really entertaining and on a hot day there are plenty of opportunities to go for a swim.
We are normally back in Hanmer Springs by mid afternoon ensuring sufficient time to drive back to Christchurch or to the West Coast.
